If an issue has many superseders, the display of the
list becomes quite unwieldy, with most of the screen
occupied by lines containing only "View: <issuenumber>"

I think that screen real estate is better used with a
list like "View: <issuenumber1>, <issuenumber2>, ..."
The attached patch implements this.
