The original roundup (at ILM) allowed issues to be cross
referenced with special cookies. For example, issue
text might have something like (see @99) in it indicating 
a cross reference to issue 99 in the same roundup database.
In the web interface this was displayed as a link to that
issue. In addition cross referencing was used to indicate
duplicate issues by adding to the subject (but leaving
the duplicate issue).

The text "issueNN" gets converted to a link to issue #NN today. If you really want a different syntax you can write an extension and change your HTML templates.

I don't understand what this means: "In addition cross referencing was used to indicate duplicate issues by adding to the subject (but leaving the duplicate issue)."

My guess if that you can achieve whatever this means though a detector, though.

It sounds like this can probably be closed.
